The highlights

  • Elegant spreading tree
  • Medium tree - grows up to 5m
  • Bronze-tinged foliage and pink blooms
  • RHS Award of Garden Merit winner

Description

  • Who doesn't want a bit of magic sprinkled in their garden? Well, that's exactly what this crabapple cultivar provides, elevating any garden with its green leaves, which boast a lovely bronze patina, rich pink blossoms and peach-coloured fruits that are often held on the tree for several months (if the birds don't get to them).
  • First bred in 2010 and popular ever since, 'Indian Magic' is an elegant spreading crabapple whose easygoing nature, full hardiness and visual heft make it an excellent choice for both medium-sized gardens and orchards alike.
  • This tree is self-fertile, meaning it doesn't require a pollination partner in order to set fruit. That means you can have this crabapple, and this crabapple alone, and still get a good harvest of tangy, tart crabapples. Use them to make a delicious crabapple jelly!
  • A deserving recipient of the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit, 'Indian Magic' has been demonstrated to perform well in British gardens.
  • It's also particularly beneficial to pollinating insects like butterflies and bees, and has been stamped with the RHS's highly-regarded Plants for Pollinators status.

Throughout the tree's first growing season, water your tree regularly. Once established, it will only need additional watering during dry spells.

Full sun to partial shade

Best growth will occur in full sun (at least six hours of direct sunlight per day) but partial shade is tolerable.

Any fertile, well-drained soil

Grows best in moist (but well-drained) soil with good levels of fertility.

Feed in early spring

Crabapple trees benefit from an application of high-potassium fertiliser each year at the start of spring.
