The highlights

  • Rich, juicy and wonderfully tangy
  • RHS Plants for Pollinators
  • Use in smoothies and sumptously sticky jams
  • Harvest from July

Description

  • Put away the cordial chock full of artificial sweeteners (you know the one we're talking about) and get blackcurrant juice from your very own, homegrown bush, instead!
  • Taking its name from Shakespeare's famous fairy queen, 'Titania' produces fruit so juicy, so utterly delicious that you'll have to pinch yourself to make sure you're not in your very own Midsummer Night's Dream!
  • This plant really is a strong performer; yielding large quantities of jumbo berries throughout the summer and exhibiting particularly good resistance to pesky fungal diseases, 'Titania' is the blackcurrant bush that truly does it all
    • Eat the berries straight from the bush, rustle up a sticky blackcurrant jam or bake them into a steaming hot pie
    • With RHS Plants for Pollinators status, this currant bush (first bred in Sweden) is a fabulous option for those gardeners looking to bolster their space's widlife presence

Can be affected by aphids and gall mites, as well as leaf and coral spot. Companion plants like marigolds will attract ladybirds and other predators that feast upon aphids, well a spray of soapy water on the affected area can also help dislodge them and prevent them from returning. Ensuring good garden hygiene can help reduce the risk of leaf or coral spot.

Water well when establishing

To help your blackcurrant plant establish, water it well during its first growing season. Once established, additional watering will only typically be needed during hot, dry spells.

Any moist, well-drained soil

Any moist, well-drained soil

'Titania' will grow best in soil with good drainage but that still retains some moisture. If your soil is nice and fertile, then even better.

Feed in winter

Feed in winter

Blackcurrant plants like this one appreciate a winter feed with a high-potassium fertiliser, as well as a mulch around the plant's base, making sure to leave a small gap between the mulch and the stems.

Best plants you will ever get online

I have ordered plants from them twice this year. They arrived well packaged, on time and looked strong and healthy. I feel the staff from Roots plants deal with their plants and customers with passion and care. I can’t wait to order again, price is good as well.

Satisfied customer

Unlike other online sellers, this company are well ahead in the quality stakes. My plant arrived promptly as per their promise and the plant was much more established and healthy than I had expected. It’s the second time I have ordered from them and I have faith in their promise. Excellent service.

A really good quality tree, delivered on time and very well packaged. But the emailed planting advice and supporting information was what really impressed me. Thoroughly recommended.
