Description
- This vibrant purple leaved Barberry is a medium sized deciduous shrub with a bushy habit
- This colourful shrub provides year round interest, with the purple foliage turning deep red for a striking autumn display. Small yellow, pink-flushed flowers appear in April and May, followed by bright red berries in summer
- Ideal as a wildlife friendly hedge or as a vibrant backdrop for a border - try teaming it with purple salvias and lavender or yellow rudbeckia and achillea for contrast
- A fully hardy shrub with a medium growth rate reaching a height of 1.5-2.5m
- Drought tolerant once established, Berberis also tolerates coastal and windy, exposed positions well

Generally unbothered by pests and diseases but can be affected by mildew on dry soils
Water when newly planted
Water establishing plants during dry spells for at least a year after planting.
Full sun to partial shade
Position where the shrub will receive at least 4-6 hours of sunlight every day during summer and spring. This variety can handle partial shade where it receives its light as dappled shade.
Any well drained, fertile soil
Will tolerate less than perfect conditions but prefers well drained, loamy soils. If your soil is heavy or sandy, mix in some perlite or fine horticultural grit when planting, to improve drainage.
