Description
- A fast-growing climbing shrub with bags of bold character brimming from its pendulous, bicolour flowers
- Flowering freely from June to September, this variety yields blooms in the iconic fuchsia shape, with striking scarlet-red sepals, alluring amethyst-purple corollas and proudly-protruding stamens. These sit atop reddish brown stems and alongside contrasting, dark green foliage
- The shrub that just loves to climb, 'Lady Boothby' is a fuchsia variety with a naturally bushy, spreading habit that can easily be trained up an obelisk, trellis or fence, reaching heights of up to 3m
- A deserved recipient of the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit (AGM), an indicator of this climbing shrub's reliable performance in British gardens
- As one of the RHS' certified Plants for Pollinators, you can rest assured that this fuchsia will bring the bees to your garden, ready to feast on the plant's nectar-rich flowers
- 'Lady Boothby' is a hardy fuchsia throughout the majority of Britain; it can withstand temperatures down to -10°C, however it will be grateful for a more sheltered spot (that's not so much to ask, though, right?)
- Please Note: Our climbers are pruned back each winter, and some during the summer, so you may find at certain times of year they do not cover the whole 90cm cane. This is intentional to ensure the best growth when you plant out

How To Grow
Good pest and disease resistance
Fuchsias can, on occasion, have problems with vine weevils and rust. To combat vine weevil, inspect the leaves regularly. If you notice there are bite marks at the ends of the leaves, then this is a strong sign that adult vine weevils are present. At night, you can go out and inspect the plant with a torch. If you see any, then pick them off and put them into a jar of water. Rust presents as leaf discolouration with orange, fuzzy-like patches. If spotted, you should prune away the leaves with clean pruning shears (thoroughly washing them afterwards) and burning the pruned leaves.
Water regularly when establishing
'Lady Boothby' will benefit from regular watering during the growing season whilst it's establishing. When your fuchsia is established, watering will usually only be required during hotter, dry spells.
Full sun to partial shade
Fuchsias generally do best when planted in a spot that receives morning sunlight and some shade later in the day, as direct, scorching sunlight (such that a south-facing garden often provides) can prove too much for them, particularly in the hot summer months.
Any fertile, moist, well-drained soil
Grows well in most soil types. If your soil's drainage needs work, then consider adding some compost, leaf mould, horticultural sand or perlite.
Feed in spring
Consider applying a balanced, all-purpose fertiliser (like Blood, Fish and Bone) once per year if you notice that growth is particularly poor.

Excellent delivery and service
Well, the delivery was spot on, the tree looks healthy enough for a sleeping plant, although at the moment most of the branches are on one side of the trunk which in itself is bent banana-style. quite wonky. One can only hope that it grows into a fruitful plant with some character?

Nice sized tree in good condition
Time will tell on the quality of the product (bare-root apple trees), but the stems that arrived seemed in great condition and very well packaged so no damage in transit. Looking forward to Spring!

Lovely tree
So happy with my purchase of my Braeburn Hillwell apple tree from Roots Plants. It arrived promptly, well packaged and in a good, healthy condition. I soaked it for an hour before planting and it's doing well. Looking forward to our home grown apples, in time.

It has picked up now and is growing well
It arrived in a heat wave and looked a little bit sorry for itself when planted out but it has picked up now and is growing well.

Good service all round
Arrived on time as the seller said it would and the courier gave me a time slot to track my parcel. It came well packaged and was of good quality for this time of year. It looks a good and healthy tree and will be planted up in a few weeks after the ground has been prepared. I’m pleased with my purchase.
