The highlights

  • Myriad pink, highly fragrant blooms
  • Compact size is perfect for a patio pot
  • RHS Plants for Pollinators
  • RHS Award of Garden Merit winner

Description

  • This small ornamental tree provides a masterclass in elegance, with abundant pink flowers smothering its stems in early spring
  • The flowers start out a hot pink before becoming a paler pastel/blush pink as time goes by
  • The tree's blooms are highly fragrant, with notes of cinammon and clove perfuming the air
  • Sometimes, the tree will also produce bitter-tasting fruits that look a bit like rosy apples from the sweet shop!
  • This Japanese Apricot variety has been certified by the RHS as one of its Plants for Pollinators; bees simply love this tree's early blooms!
  • 'Beni-chidori' is a recipient of the RHS' Award of Garden Merit, meaning it comes highly recommended by the society
  • Our potted trees are supplied in EcoPots™. Eco pots use 70% less plastic and are fully recyclable, unlike normal single use pots. They flex and so produce less root spiralling and travel better in the post
  • Our trees are usually between 18 and 36 months old at the time of dispatch
  • Our trees are professionally pruned before dispatching. This formative pruning can involve cutting the main leader, if the expert tree growers decide this will produce a better shaped tree. This can stop the tree becoming "leggy", and promote stronger, bushier growth

How To Grow

Good pest and disease resistance

May suffer from aphids, caterpillars, silver leaf, honey fungus, blossom wilt and bacterial canker. The diseases can be prevented by spacing plants and trees well, watering at the base and pruning at the correct time of year. The pests can be removed by hand and the affected area sprayed with soapy water to prevent a recurrence.

Water regularly

Water frequently, particularly whilst establishing and during hot, dry spells.

Full sun

Plant somewhere that the tree will receive at least 6 hours of sunlight per day. This tree will grow in part shade but the flowers might not be as impressive.

Any moist, well-drained soil

Prefers soil that's moist and well-draining. Work in some organic compost when planting to enrich the soil with nutrients and improve its drainage.

Feed every spring

Feed with a general, slow-release fertiliser in the early part of spring.
