How To Grow

Good pest and disease resistance

Lupins can be affected by slugs, snails and aphids. Keep the area around the plant debris free and as dry as possible, especially at night as slugs and snails love damp conditions. You can use barriers such as crushed egg shells, grit or copper wire to surround the plant - these will prevent slugs and snails from reaching the leaves. If you see aphids, remove them by hand or blast them off with a hosepipe, then spray the affected area with soapy water. Lupin smay occasionally suffer from the fungal disease Lupin anthracnose. This appears as brown areas and orange spores on the leaves, and can cause dieback. Prevent it by spacing your plants well to improve airflow, and if affected, remove and destroy the damaged foliage.

Full sun to partial shade

Lupins prefer a sheltered spot with morning sun and some afternoon shade.

Most well-drained soils

Plant in well-drained soil. Lupins prefer neutral to alkaline soil and don't do well in clay or chalk.

Feed lightly

Apply a general purpose slow-release fertiliser when planting, and each spring ?v=1613300718
