The highlights

  • Happy in both full sun and part shade
  • A perfect climber for a patio pot
  • Deep blue flowers from June to September
  • Glorious evergreen, lanceolate foliage

Description

  • An abundance of ultramarine, bell-shaped flowers carpet this evergreen climber throughout the summer months
  • The charming, dangling blooms are borne in clusters, with each flower comprising five petals in an intense blue. These contrast beautifully with mid-green, lanceolate foliage which dresses the vine the whole year round
  • 'Ultra Blue' is a half-hardy climber that trains very nicely up a patio trellis and looks fantastic when planted in a large container (this way, it can be moved to avoid those pesky periods of frost, too!)
  • This variety of bluebell creeper is known for having a denser habit than other varieties of the species; again, this particularly lends itself to pot planting
  • Please Note: Our climbers are pruned back each winter, and some during the summer, so you may find at certain times of year they do not cover the whole 90cm cane. This is intentional to ensure the best growth when you plant out

How To Grow

Excellent pest and disease resistance

Rarely has any troubles with disease or pests. It can have issues with Red Spider Mites when grown under glass. You can get rid of these by misting the leaves with water a couple of times per week.

Water regularly

Water the plant regularly during the growing season, especially during hot and dry periods and particularly if you're container-growing the plant. During the winter the plant will need much less watering; it may only require a watering once every week to two weeks (at the most).

Full sun to partial shade

Plant where the plant will receive at least 4-6 hours of sunlight everyday during summer and spring. This variety can also grow well in part/dappled shade.

Any fertile, moist, well-drained soil

Grows well in most soil types provided that it drains well. Consider working in some organic compost, horticultural grit or perlite to improve drainage.

Feed regularly

Feed regularly during the growing season using a balanced liquid feed every 3-4 weeks.
