The highlights

  • Sweet almonds you can eat straight from the tree
  • Clouds of scented white blossom
  • Harvest from late September
  • Makes an ideal specimen tree for every size of garden

Description

  • A highly attractive and compact tree with clouds of scented white blossom in spring
  • Produces high quality sweet almonds in soft shells
  • Harvest from late September
  • Self fertile - you only need one tree for a good crop
  • Grow in full sun on a south or west facing wall, or in a greenhouse or conservatory
  • Grows to 5 x 5m but can be pruned to fit any size of garden
  • Almonds can be eaten straight from the tree or used in baking and desserts
  • Our trees are professionally pruned before dispatching. This formative pruning can involve cutting the main leader, if the expert tree growers decide this will produce a better shaped tree. This can stop the tree becoming "leggy", and promote stronger, bushier growth.MORE

What To Expect

Supplied as:

Bare root
Our bare root trees are lifted fresh from the field, wrapped in a moisture retentive covering and packed straight away. You can be sure they will be fresh when they arrive. In winter, you can store for several weeks if kept in a cool, dark spot. Later in spring, when the temperature rises, you will want to plant within a few days of arrival.
9L poly-pot
This tree is supplied in a 9L Poly-Pot, which is approx D15 x H30cm. Poly-Pots use 70% less plastic than traditional pots and can be recycled. A 9L pot allows ample space for good root development and can support a good size tree.

How To Grow

Good pest and disease resistance

Generally disease free, can be affected by canker or leaf curl. With leaf curl the leaves blister and curl - the only solution is to pick off the infected leaves as they form in the Spring. Usually the new growth will come clean by early summer.

Water well when first planted

If you’re planting in spring or summer, water well for the first few months. Increase watering if there are extended periods of hot or dry weather. If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little.

Full sun

Needs a sunny position on a south or west facing wall - can also be grown in a conservatory or greenhouse.

Any fertile, well-drained soil

Prefers fertile well draining soil. Can also tolerate clay soil but you will need to take some steps to improve drainage, such as mixing in fine horticultural grit or perlite to the surrounding soil when planting.

No feeding needed

Feeding not required but it will give your tree a good start if you mix in plenty of compost or well rotted manure to the planting hole ?v=1613300929
