How To Grow

Excellent pest and disease resistance

Lavender generally experiences very few problems with pests or diseases. It can, however, be prone to rosemary beetles and grey mould. To prevent rosemary beetle infestations, remove any adults and larvae by hand during the latter part of spring. To control grey mould, make sure dead leaves and flowers are quickly removed, and ensure that your lavender plants aren't overcrowded.

Light watering

Lavender only needs to be watered regularly in summer during the first year after planting, or if you're keeping the plant in a container (potted lavender should generally be watered once weekly or fortnightly). Lavender is drought tolerant, therefore once its established, plants in the ground don't need any additional watering except for in severely dry conditions. A sign that your lavender needs watering is if the leaves begin to wilt and droop. Yellowing leaves and drooping are both indications that your lavender has been overwatered.

Full sun

Lavender requires a minimum of 6 hours of direct sunlight per day to grow well, but performs its very best when it receives at least 8 hours of direct sunlight per day.

Free draining soil

This plant will grow best in sandy, slightly alkaline soil that has good drainage. You can improve drainage by adding perlite or coarse sand to your soil. Avoid clay soil or soil which too acidic.

No feeding needed

Lavender prefers soil that's poor in nutrients or only moderately fertile, so feeding isn't generally required.
